Chapter 25

The reason for our reaction can be summed up in one word – Jen. To say that she’s undergone some form of radical transformation overnight doesn’t even begin to sum it up.

It’s scarily shocking. As she walks, no…saunters towards us, I make a funny sound, which sounds like a cross between a grunt and a whine. Adam doesn’t seem to hear me, for he too is stupefied by this revelation.

Jen doesn’t look like the same girl. Her skin is spotless and looks smoother than silk.

She is hot.

No.

Scrap that.

She’s hotter than hot and she knows it.

So does Robbie.

“Well punch me hard and steal my glasses.” Robbie says, unaware of what he is saying.

His brain has gone to mush, just like all the other boys.

Jen flicks her hair over her shoulder as she walks. Gone is the birds nest. It has now been replaced with luscious, goddess like locks that even the world’s greatest stylist couldn’t create. They are beyond perfect. Honestly, I’d call them divine, especially as they seem to shimmer and dance every time she moves. All in all, it’s like a style out of some kind of guy’s fantasy.

The boy closest to her faints.

“Is that really Jennifer Graves?” Robbie adds. His mouth is so agape that I’m sure I could fit a tennis ball inside.

Adam’s answering reaction snaps me from my trance. He rubs his eyes.

“Yeah.” He says, a little too enthusiastic for my liking. “Yeah. It is!”

I elbow him in the ribs.

His shout of pain wakes up everyone else.

“Now where has she been hiding?” Dave adds, his eyes travelling over every inch of Jen’s body, although they land on one part in particular.

Susanna’s stamp on his foot reminds him where he should be focusing.

He lets out a whine that sounds like a punctured tyre, before his face goes red.

“Not on this planet clearly.” This is the reply, just before Jen has reached our table.

When I realise who has said it, I nearly choke.

To say that Grace is just as shocked as all of us is an understatement. However, I can also sense an underlying tone of suspicion. We are all rendered speechless when Jen reaches the table. She throws us all a dazzling smile and her eyes shine brighter than the sun. I have to shield my gaze due to their intensity. It is in this moment that I realise she is no longer wearing her tongue piercing, nose stud or glasses. They too have been given the boot.

Contact lenses, I think. She must be wearing contact lenses.

“Why hello.” Jen says and I can practically hear every guy in the room melt. Her voice is softer than the gentlest wind chime and her red lip gloss highlights her small mouth. I notice that Robbie can’t take his eyes off this part of her body. He is not even trying to hide this fact. “How are you all doing?”

It takes a few seconds for anyone to answer, although to me it feels like forever.

It’s Grace who decides to reply.
